Dermot Woods stepping down as County Board chairman

Senior Team Manager Darren Bishop and County Board chairman Dermot Woods.

The 26th annual Louth LGFA convention will take place on next Monday night in St.Mary’s GFC Ardee. There will be at least one change at the top table as outgoing Chairman Dermot Woods has indicated he is to step down after a two year stint.

The Naomh Malachi clubman leaves the position with the sport in a very healthy state. There are close to 2,500 females playing the game and twenty four registered clubs in Louth.  All of the under age county teams performed extremely well on the provincial stage and the senior side also excelled taking the Leinster junior title and being runner-up in both the Division 4 League final and the All-Ireland final where they lost out to Wicklow and Limerick respectively.

With Darren Bishop already in place, plans for next season’s campaigns are already underway and hopes are high that they can go one step further in the up coming league and championship.

Louth will again contest the Leinster Junior Championship along with Carlow and Kilkenny. In the All-Ireland series Louth are in Group 1 with London, Carlow and Derry, while Group 2 consists of Kilkenny, Fermanagh and Antrim.

The Wee County open their league campaign with a trip to Limerick hoping to atone for their defeat to the Treaty County in the All-Ireland final in September.
